La Crosse Community Pool Initiative
For more than four decades, two swimming pools have served the city’s north side, providing everything from physical education classes to countless open-swim opportunities.
Today, however, both pools are approaching the end of their service life.
- The City owns and operates the outdoor pool located at Logan Middle School. Given its poor condition and high operational costs, the City will close the pool this summer.
- The School District operates the indoor pool at Logan High School. While it is still functioning, it’s showing its age. Repairs are becoming more frequent and costly. Continuing short-term repairs may not be the most responsible use of tax dollars. At the same time, replacing or significantly renovating the pool would require substantial investment and thoughtful planning.
Because of these realities, City and District leadership are exploring whether a shared indoor, year-round pool could be a practical long-term solution. This facility would prioritize student use during the school day while expanding access for the broader community in the evenings, on weekends, and during the summer months.
At this stage, no decisions have been made. Community input will help guide what happens next.

What is being proposed?
The proposed facility would be built onto Logan Middle School (the current location of the city’s community pool) and feature: A community recreation pool with a zero-entry pool and water slide.
-
An eight-lane, 25-yard competition pool
-
Locker rooms and spectator seating
-
Community locker rooms
-
Visitor waiting area and concession stand
-
Space for employees and visitors for pool operations
The City and the School District are committed to contributing to the annual operating costs associated with heating, cleaning, and supervising the facility.
