Course Information

These courses are open to any contracted employee of the School District of La Crosse (administrators, teachers, substitute teachers, secretaries, teaching assistants, cooks, custodians, etc.) All courses are provided at no fee (unless otherwise specified) to staff and are open on a first-come first-served basis.

All courses taken for college credit must be pre-approved using the “Approval Form for Professional Credit”.

A course must have at least 10 participants in order for it to be offered. Twenty participants generally constitutes a maximum class size, but this can vary dependent upon the class. Following the registration deadline, particpants will be notified by the Staff Development Office as to the status of the course.

Credit Information

Courses are frequently available with a credit option.  Participants taking a course for credit must have completed UW-L’s online registration. Registration materials are available through the Office of Staff Development.  The cost for each credit earned through Gold Brochure is $110.00.

Attendance and Credit

In order to receive credit, participants must attend all scheduled sessions. Credit is based on completed coursework and satisfying requirements for hours of attendance. If absolutely necessary, one excused absence can be made up by making arrangements with the course instructor. The instructor is in charge of making clear what must be done to “make up” the session and indicating that it is completed on the attendance sheet before it is turned in to the Staff Development Office. The work must be made up within one week of the completed course date.

As courses are completed, attendance forms and grades are returned by the Instructor to the Staff Development Office. That office uses the attendance records to fill out Certificates of Completion for each participant not earning university credit.
