District expands All-Day 4K Preschool to all elementary sites

LA CROSSE, Wis., (January 19, 2026) – Starting in the 2026–2027 school year, the School District of La Crosse will expand its All-Day 4K Preschool program to all of its elementary schools, giving more young learners the time, care, and experiences they need to build confidence and feel excited about learning.

All-Day 4K Preschool will run from 7:45 a.m. to 2:20 p.m., allowing children to spend a full school day exploring, creating, and learning in a safe, nurturing environment. The expanded schedule gives students more time for play-based, hands-on learning while strengthening early reading, math, and social skills. It also allows children to build stronger relationships with classmates and teachers, helping them feel connected and supported from the very start of their school journey.

With more time in the classroom, students can take part in building-wide experiences like art, music, and physical education, sparking new interests and helping them feel like an important part of their school community. These shared experiences encourage creativity, movement, and self-expression, all essential parts of early childhood development.

 

The district’s All-Day 4K Preschool classrooms are led by licensed early childhood educators who bring warmth, expertise, and creativity to each day. The full-day schedule gives teachers more opportunities to get to know each child, provide personalized support, and create meaningful learning moments that meet students where they are.

For families, All-Day 4K Preschool offers a simpler and more consistent daily routine. The all-day schedule means one drop-off and one pick-up, with transportation options available. Families will continue to benefit from the same high-quality, play-based curriculum and licensed teachers that have made La Crosse’s 4K Preschool program a trusted choice, now with more time together in the classroom.

The district’s All-Day 4K Preschool program is offered at no cost to district families. The expansion reflects the district’s commitment to giving every child a strong start and supporting families with accessible, high-quality early learning opportunities.

Site selection opens Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 7:00 a.m. Families can choose up to three preferred school sites, with final placements shared by mid-April.
