Golden Apple Awards return, celebrating the everyday impact of district staff

LA CROSSE, Wis. (October 16, 2025) – The School District of La Crosse is once again recognizing the people who make a difference in students’ lives every day through its Golden Apple Awards staff recognition program.

Now in its second year, the Golden Apple Awards celebrate district staff members who go above and beyond to help students feel safe, supported, and inspired to pursue their dreams and aspirations. From teachers and educational assistants to administrative assistants, custodians, nutrition services, technology services staff, bus drivers, and administrators—every role contributes to creating a sense of belonging and possibility in our schools.

“In every corner of our schools, staff are helping students feel seen, valued, and capable of amazing things,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Aaron Engel. “The Golden Apple Awards are one small way we can pause to recognize that effort and express our gratitude for the impact they make every single day.”

The program, presented in partnership with the La Crosse Public Education Foundation (LPEF) and the La Crosse Education Association (LEA), includes three nomination periods throughout the school year—fall, winter, and spring—all recognizing staff who inspire students to create safe, welcoming environments where everyone feels they belong and can achieve.

Families, staff, and community members are encouraged to submit nominations for any district staff member who has made a positive impact on a student’s experience or the school community. All nominations are shared with the honorees.

Fall nominations are open now through Thursday, November 6, 2025.
