Super Search 2020

The School District of La Crosse Board of Education is pleased to announce the selection of three finalists to interview for the superintendent vacancy. The candidates selected for interviews are:

Stacey Everson is the director of secondary education for the School District of La Crosse. For ten years, Everson previously served as the principal of Menomonie Middle School for the School District of Menomonie Area. She has almost 25 years of education experience with 17 of those years working as an administrator. Everson graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She earned her Master of Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin – Stout.

Dr. Rainey Briggs is the director of elementary education at Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District in Middleton, Wisconsin. Dr. Briggs previously served as an elementary school principal in the Sun Prairie Area School District and the Madison Metropolitan School District and as an assistant high school principal in Sun Prairie. Dr. Briggs graduated from Minnesota State University – Mankato with a Bachelor of Science Degree followed by his Master of Science Degree from Viterbo University. Dr. Briggs earned his Ph.D. from Edgewood College.

Dr. Aaron Engel is the superintendent at Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau School District in Galesville, Wisconsin. Dr. Engel previously served as a middle and high school principal at the Auburndale School District in Auburndale, Wisconsin. Dr. Engel graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a Bachelor of Science Degree followed by his Master of Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin – Superior. Dr. Engel earned his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

Interviews are scheduled to be conducted this week on March 2, 3, and 4. Numerous stakeholder groups will have the opportunity to meet the final candidates and submit input to the board about each of them.

The district retained the services of McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C. to assist in conducting their search. The consultants reviewed, screened, and conducted extensive background checks on twenty-six applicants. On February 13, the consultants presented the applicants to the Board of Education and provided them detailed background information on each applicant. A final selection of the new superintendent will be made by the end of this month.

The School District of La Crosse Board of Education continues to move forward with the process of selecting a new superintendent of schools for the 2020-2021 school year.

On January 14, 2020, Gary McAndrew from McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development conducted meetings with district stakeholders representing six different groups associated with the School District of La Crosse. McAndrew received input from 111 different individuals in these groups. Input was gathered regarding the selection of a new superintendent for the School District of La Crosse.

The board started the search process by selecting McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development to assist them in selecting superintendent candidates for the board to interview. The application period closed on January 20, 2020. Twenty-six candidates applied and will now be considered as La Crosse’s next superintendent of schools.

Although it is the Board of Education making the final selection, guiding the candidate search is an unprecedented level of community input. This input is helping shape the leadership profile that will serve as the board’s guide.

The executive summary of the community input sessions, which outlines the major themes expressed by the sessions’ participants, can be found on the district’s website, www.lacrosseschools.org.

The board will meet in closed session on February 13, 2020, to discuss all of the candidates and make selections of semifinalists for interviews.

The board plans to complete the search and selection process by the end of March 2020.

How was community input gathered?

Information received from the community engagement process will be presented to the board along with a draft profile of leadership characteristics for the next superintendent. The board will use this information to evaluate and make decisions about candidates.

The consultants will be hosting several community engagement sessions. Information received from the community engagement process will be presented to the board. The board will use this information to help evaluate and make decisions about candidates.

The community engagement sessions will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2020. The sessions are open to the public and will be held in room 209 at the Hogan Administrative Center located at 807 East Avenue South in La Crosse.

Two public input sessions are scheduled for that evening.

6:00-7:00 p.m. – Any interested La Crosse community members

7:00-8:00 p.m. – Parents of incoming or current La Crosse Schools students

The board plans to complete the search and selection process by the end of March 2020.

The School District of La Crosse’s Board of Education continues to move forward on the search for a new superintendent of schools for the 2020-2021 school year.

After almost 40 years in education, the district’s current superintendent, Randy Nelson, will retire at the end of the current school year, on June 30, 2020.

The Board of Education has selected McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development to assist them in the important task of selecting superintendent candidates for the board to interview.

“Selecting a new superintendent for the School District of La Crosse is one of the most important responsibilities we have as a board,” said Board President Laurie Cooper Stoll. “We will be seeking input from district and community stakeholders to help us shape the profile of what we are looking for in our next superintendent of schools.”

The consultants from McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development will host sessions with staff, students, families, and community members in the coming weeks. More information about the exact dates and times of the sessions will be released as it becomes available.

The board plans to complete the search and selection process by the end of March 2020.
