IXL Math

Dear Coulee Kids Parents:

I am pleased to tell you that your child uses a web-based program called IXL in 7th grade. IXL is a comprehensive math review site with an unlimited number of practice questions in hundreds of skills—all of which are aligned to state standards.

In addition to making math practice exciting, IXL is designed to help your child learn at his or her own pace. The website is adaptive and will adjust to your child’s demonstrated ability level. The site also saves all of your child’s results, so you can monitor your child’s progress anytime by clicking on the Reports at the top of the page.

Each grade level presents challenges for your child to conquer and virtual prizes to be uncovered.

Instructional Use
I am asking my students to log 75 minutes of practice time each week—Sunday to Saturday. 15 minutes of MLT class, 7:35-7:50AM, is devoted to independent IXL practice.

I set class goals that support the current math chapter and district curriculum.

Personal goals are emailed to students bi-weekly and are geared at each student’s instructional math level. Grade levels and math skills are flexible, and I adjust to individual student’s needs.

I am monitoring areas of strength and weakness for your child. When skills are mastered I will advance the goals, change the flexible Challenge By Choice math groups, and modify homework assignments to further your child in the 7th/8th grade math sequence. If your child is struggling, I provide my instruction apart from the computer program.

Participation points are entered in my grade book for logging in 75 minutes of weekly practice.
Academic points are awarded when goals are achieved.

Please encourage your child to use IXL daily. We will celebrate together when goals are met and student achievement on tests increase. I am hopeful that students will have success.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth Ramsay
