She’s now a member of a handpicked community of education innovators. As an ADE, Nugent will be an author, advisor, ambassador, and advocate of what’s possible when new technology is brought to teaching and learning. She’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with over 2,500 ADE colleagues around the globe and turn fresh, new ideas into education realities.

“Technology in our classroom increases engagement, builds 21st-century skills, develops collaboration between students, but also fosters independence,” said Hamilton art teacher and Apple Distinguished Educator Bethany Nugent. “The technology has helped level the playing field in our building. Many of our students don’t have markers, or crayons, or other art supplies at home. The district supplied iPad gives them a way to stay connected to creating art outside of school even if they don’t have those materials at home.”

This recognition is well-deserved.  Ms. Nugent has been exceptionally innovative in her use of technology in art applications as well as a resource for her colleagues in technology and arts integration.

“Ms. Nugent’s use of technology has had school-wide influence,” said Hamilton/SOTA I principal Steve Michaels. “She has been instrumental in the development of whole school activities using technology and the arts such as our whole-school mannequin challenge, documenting artists in residence through creative video presentations, preparing our PBIS school expectations video, and bringing together the SOTA 1 informance at the Rivoli Theater last year. She has become a go-to person for quality application of technology.”

The Apple Distinguished Educator (ADE) Program began in 1994 when Apple recognized K-12 and higher education pioneers who are using a variety of Apple products to transform teaching and learning in powerful ways. Today it has grown into a worldwide community of over 2,500 visionary educators and innovative leaders who are doing amazing things with Apple technology in and out of the classroom.
