LA CROSSE, Wis., (June 5, 2020) – The school year is over but the School District of La Crosse understands the continued importance of available nutritious meals for children during the summer months. Over 150,000 meals were prepared and delivered by the district’s #LunchLadyArmy to families during the closure period and that number will continue to grow as work continues to support area families through the district’s Summer Food Service Program.

The Summer Food Service Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, provides free nutritious meals to children during the summer when school meals are typically unavailable.

“We’ll always support the needs of our students and families but especially now during these times of unprecedented circumstances we want those in our community to know we continue to have their backs,” said School District of La Crosse School Nutrition Specialist Marilyn Volden. “Helping parents meet the nutritional needs of their children is the passion of our team and the strength of this program.”

Neighborhood food site location and additional food pick up details:

  • All children 18 or younger in the household may receive one breakfast meal and one lunch meal daily, Monday – Friday
  • Parents may pick up meals on behalf of eligible children
  • No identification is required
  • Social distancing is strongly encouraged when picking up meals with thorough hand-washing with soap and water before eating any take-home meals.
  • Please bring reusable bags

School Nutrition will continue to staff a telephone hotline for those families who are unable to make it to or missed a stop time. Families can call 608.789.5880 for assistance. School Nutrition has a limited number of drivers who will be able to make a delivery stop. The hotline is staffed from 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Times, dates, and locations of meal services are subject to change. There will not be a meal service or a staffed call center on Friday, July 3, 2020.
