Global Strand

Global Education – A Passport to the World

Integrating traditions, customs, and cultures from around the globe into the School District of La Crosse’s high quality curriculum

“Our global approach to education instills in our students an understanding and respect for other cultures.  It truly prepares them to be culturally responsive citizens who will be leaders in the 21st century.”
– Marian Mason, North Woods Art Teacher

“We believe a global education develops in students a greater sense of openness to and appreciation for other cultures and traditions.  Students begin to see and explore the world from multiple perspectives, which will benefit them for the rest of their lives.” – Sandy Brauer, North Woods Principal

K – Asia
1 – Africa
2 – Australia/Oceana
3 – South America/Antarctica
4 – Europe
5 – North America

Festival of Nations

Each year students showcase their learning with a celebration in May. The event includes:

  • music
  • cultural dancing
  • display of student projects
  • student artwork

Service Learning

Each year students participate in a variety of service learning projects and fundraising efforts to help those less fortunate, which helps them develop a greater understanding of the world and their relationship with it.  To date, our funds have purchased books, school supplies, and even build a house in Santa Celia, Nicaragua.  Several North Woods teachers have traveled to Santa Celia to help the community.
