Welcome to Title I

Hello! My name is Jeanette Schams and I am the Title I teacher at North Woods International.

The Title I Program is a federally funded program created to give support to those children who are in need of additional time for learning. I work closely with the classroom teachers to offer small group guided reading instruction in grades 1-3.

Starfall.com is a free public service to motivate children to read with phonics. The systematic phonics approach, in conjunction with phonemic awareness practice is perfect for preschool, kindergarten, first grade, second grade, special education, homeschool, and English language development (ELD, ELL, ESL). Starfall is an educational alternative to other entertainment choices for children.

Spelling City
Spelling City actually manages to make practicing for a spelling test fun by letting users type in their own list of up to 10 words or use one of the many sample lists, which are broken out by grade (K-8) and themes. The site offers eight spelling and vocabulary games to complement the spelling list. After taking the online spelling test, students can print out a report, retake the entire test, or get tested only on spelling words that they misspelled on the first round. The site’s TeachMe function spells and displays the word in ways that stimulate memory for visual and verbal learners. For added fun and offline learning, Spelling City also offers Printable Games including WordSearch, UnScramble, WhichWord? and MissingLetter.

Book Wizard
Find “just right books”. The Scholastic Book Wizard is a great resource for finding additional books on your child’s level. Ask your child’s teacher about their current DRA level and you can create your own book list using your child’s interests. Check for books at your local library. Happy reading!!!
