My name is Sandy Brauer, and I have been the principal of North Woods International School since the summer of 2009. In addition to serving as your principal, I also serve as the supervisor of K-12 Social Studies, and our district World Languages program. Both of these areas are helpful to me in internationalizing our curriculum at North Woods International.
On a personal note, I live on a 27 acre hobby farm overlooking the Mississippi River. My husband, Bill Brauer, is a Florida state harbor pilot, and brings all ocean going ships in and out of port in Jacksonville, Florida for 3 week at a time, and then returns home for three weeks. We have four children: Nathan, farming in La Crescent, MN; Trevor, teaching English in Shanghai, China; Clay, attending NDSU in Fargo, ND; and Alivia, living at home and attending high school.
I am very proud to be principal of North Woods International, a choice school offering a strong academic curriculum linked to world events, geography and world cultures. Our students at NWI have a choice between two “strands” or pathways of education, Global or Spanish Partial Immersion. Students in our Global Strand participate in a different continent of study at each grade level. Students in our Spanish Partial Immersion Strand receive 50% of their instruction in Spanish from our bilingual teaching staff, and also learn about Spanish speaking countries.
I enjoy partnering with our families in each child’s International education journal. I truly believe that the global education your child receives at our school will open many doors for him/her in the future!
Please call me any time for additional information. I love giving tours of our school!
