About our Program
The School District of La Crosse offers a Four-Year-Old Preschool Program to any child, who is 4 years old on or before September 1, and lives in the La Crosse School District attendance area. The preschool program runs Monday–Friday, and is a 2.5 hours per day. Housed at a number of centers and schools throughout the district, the preschool program is free for any eligible child.
2019-2020 Registration Information
Those interested in registering for the Four-Year-Old Preschool Program may register by:
- In person at: Hogan Administrative Building, 807 East Ave. S., in the Welcome Center.
***Please bring address verification & child’s birth certificate***
- Beginning December 20, 2018 you can fill out enrollment paperwork online at lacrosseschools.org
***Please print the completed online paperwork and bring to the Hogan Administrative Center beginning February 6, 2019 at 6:30 a.m., along with address verification & the child’s birth certificate.***
**Due to limited space, early registration is recommended. Our preschool classes are filled on a first come, first serve basis. We are not able to secure a preschool site or class for your child until you completed the registration paperwork, including bringing in the child’s birth certificate and address verification.***

What is the difference between 4K, Pre-K, and preschool?
Nothing – they are all the same program. 🙂
Is there early entry into preschool?
No. Students must be 4 years old on or before September 1st.
How will I know what class my child is in?
When you come the Hogan Administrative Center, with your child’s birth certificate and address verification, you will be assigned a preschool site and class (A.M. or P.M.) at that time. Preschool classes are filled on a first come, first served basis, so early registration is encouraged.
Does my child have to attend preschool at their boundary school?
No, preschool is a boundaryless program. Your child is welcome to attend preschool at any of our locations, based on availability. Preschool classes are filled on a first come, first served basis, so early registration is encouraged.
However, your child will be expected to attend their boundary school for Kindergarten. If you would like to know your boundary school, please call the preschool office at 608-789-7006.

What is an off-site preschool?
The School District of La Crosse is proud to partner with 6 off-site locations – Coulee Children’s Center, Congregational Preschool, Gundersen Child Care, La Crosse Montessori Preschool, YWCA Child Care Center, and Toddle Inn Daycare. These sites offer the School District of La Crosse Four-Year Old Preschool Program curriculum, taught by a licensed teacher. The 2.5 hour district preschool program is free, however, students have the option to stay on-site for extended care, if needed. Please contact each site for rates and availability of extended child care.
Can my child attend if I am not a resident of the La Crosse School District?
If you are not a resident of the La Crosse School District, you will need to apply for Open Enrollment. Please visit the website below for more information, including instructions for applying.
Is transportation provided for preschoolers?
Limited transportation is provided for preschoolers. Please call the preschool office regarding your transportation needs.
All transportation requests need to be submitted online by August 15th, to ensure transportation for the first day of school. Please follow the link to register your child and for additional information:
If you need to make a change in your child’s transportation, please call the Go Riteway office at 608-881-6370. All changes in transportation take 3 business days to process.
