Frequently Asked Questions

Does preschool start on the same day as the rest of the schools start in the fall?

No. Open house for preschool is held the first two days of school. Preschool begins on the third day of school.

What is open house?

These days have two purposes.

First, it gives the preschooler a chance to spend a short time (about 30-45 minutes) with their teacher, learn some important information (such as where their coat hook or locker is and where the bathroom is), practice what they will do when they come to school for the first time and hopefully increase their comfort level about starting school.

Second, this is the time for parents to fill out and turn in the necessary paperwork, ask questions regarding breakfast/lunch, bussing, etc. You will also need to turn in immunization cards on this date.

How will we know when to come for open house?

You will receive a letter during the summer with a time and date for you to attend open house/registration.

Can my child eat breakfast (or lunch) at school? What is the cost?

Both breakfast and lunch are served at a few of the schools. You will need to check with your school preference to see if they do offer the program. Families who do have the option of having their child eat breakfast at school (morning class), please let your child’s teacher know if you are planning on having your child participate. Please check with the school to see what the cost will be.

Will bussing be provided for my child?

If you filled out a Request for Bussing form, bussing will be considered for your child. This does not mean that bussing will be available. The bus company will contact you in August to let you know what is happening in terms of bussing. You must fill out a Request for Bussing form by the end of June in order to be considered for bussing for the first week of school. Any requests after August 1, will be considered for starting in mid-September. All bus requests will go through Julie Lawrence, the district preschool administrative assistant, at 789-7006.

When will I know if my child will be in the morning or afternoon program?

A letter will be sent out in June letting you know which section your child is in. Any requests for either morning or afternoon will be granted to the best of our ability.

If I request morning, will I get the morning program?

If you have a preference for morning or afternoon, please indicate this on your enrollment form. Also, indicate if this preference is due to transportation or child care concerns. When class lists are compiled, we will do our best to honor those requests.

I have other questions regarding preschool….

You can call Julie Lawrence, the Administrative Assistant for the district preschool, at Hogan Administrative Building at 789-7006.
