Welcome to 1st Grade in Room 106!

I am very excited to be your child’s teacher this year!  First Grade is a fun year filled with lots of learning and growth.  I began teaching at Southern Bluffs in August of 2011, and I am thrilled to be teaching in the same district from which I graduated.  Prior to teaching here at Southern Bluffs, I also taught one year of 1st/2nd Grade multi-age at St. Patrick’s School in Sparta.  I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in May 2010, and in 2013, I received an additional certification as a Reading Teacher from Viterbo University. I also completed my Master’s Degree at Viterbo in 2018.

I enjoy spending time with my family who is also from the La Crosse area.  My parents own a small business, my sister is also a teacher, and my two brothers work at Mayo.  We like grilling out, cheering for the Packers, and playing with our dogs.  I have a spunky little beagle named Gracie who always keeps things interesting.  In addition, I enjoy spending time with friends and being outdoors.

If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me!  Students will bring home a Day Sheet in their Bee Binders each night, and this is a great communication tool between school and home.  You can also call 789-7020 or email at jfriedma@lacrossesd.org.  If you do call or email during the day, please know that I will be busy helping students learn at that time and won’t have a chance to check messages until after the students go home for the day.  If you have an emergency, please let the office know and they will make sure the message gets sent through to me right away.
