Elementary MTB 101 is designed to introduce riders to mountain biking and extend the skills of those already riding off-road. Climbing, descending, cornering, and riding over obstacles, along with fitness training, safety, and basic bike maintenance will be among the topics covered. Lead coach, Josh Shively, is a teacher in the La Crosse School District and National Interscholastic Cycling Association certified coach with the La Crosse Area Middle School and High School Mountain Bike Team. He will be accompanied by 3 other mountain bike team coaches so the class can be split into small groups for skills work. Students must be able to ride a bike without assistance (no training wheels). They will need to arrive with a mountain or BMX bike that is in good working condition, ready to ride on the Leuth Park pump track and trails, wearing a helmet and riding attire, including closed-toe shoes.
