LA CROSSE, Wis., (December 15, 2023) – Hintgen Elementary School recently hosted the Festival of Nations. This vibrant event brought together students and families from diverse ethnic backgrounds, promoting cultural exchange and community engagement.

This past summer, a dedicated team at Hintgen collaborated to create the Festival of Nations to strengthen relationships within the school community. The event aimed to build a positive, inclusive school-wide environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging and is valued, respected, and supported.

The Festival of Nations featured interactive stations representing various cultures, allowing students to explore and learn about traditions, customs, and lifestyles from around the world. Activities included learning to write in Chinese, spinning Hmong tops, creating jewelry, and much more.

“I hope students and families gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for cultural diversity,” said Hintgen Kindergarten Teacher Pa Houa Vang. “We want to promote more respect for one another, inspire curiosity and open-mindedness, and encourage people to embrace differences and celebrate the uniqueness that each culture brings to our community.”

Teachers at Hintgen Elementary School viewed the Festival of Nations as an invaluable opportunity to promote diversity and foster familiarity among students. By providing a platform for cultural exchange through shared traditions, games, music, and art, the event aimed to cultivate a more inclusive and culturally aware school environment.

The Festival of Nations reflects the school’s commitment to ongoing efforts in creating an environment that sparks open dialogue, promotes empathy, and celebrates the rich tapestry of cultures represented within the school community.
