“”Graduation from high school seems like a long time away for many fifth-graders at Northside Elementary School. So, dozens of students from the Logan High School Rotary Interact Club have been working on a mentorship project to bring Northside students to the high school to get the younger kids excited about higher level education. The fifth-graders traveled to Logan High School for an eye-opening afternoon of what possibilities their high school futures hold.

“It’s so important for our elementary students to be able to visualize themselves first as successful high school students and then as successful high school graduates,” said Northside principal Laura Huber. “Our fifth graders really appreciate the mentoring the older students provide. Having the opportunity for younger students to have such successful role models to connect with is extremely important for future success.”

About 70 Northside students, divided into small groups, spent the afternoon discovering the choices and opportunities high school offers. They experienced different classes, programs, and clubs at Logan High School. Along the way, they were welcomed by and visited with Logan students and teachers in classrooms, labs, art and music rooms, the cafeteria, and more to discover fun and interesting things about the high school experience. The Rotary Interact Club members also shared their post high school plans with the fifth-graders.

“The Interact Club is so excited to start this new tradition at Logan High School,” said Interact Club president Maria Carr. “We will be showing the kids what we think are the coolest things about high school. We want to leave them with an impression that gives them hope for their future and some directions for the path forward.”“”””[vc_gallery type=”flexslider_slide” interval=”0″ images=”13828,13826,13829,13827,13830,13833,13831,13832,13834,13835,13838,13825,13837,13836,13840,13841,13842,13843,13844,13839″ img_size=”625×417″]””
